奧巴馬在宣誓就任總統時，讀第一句誓詞就出現口誤。
當時奧巴馬在美國最高法院首席大法官約翰．羅伯茨的主持下，手按由妻子米歇爾捧著的聖經，莊嚴宣誓。
據美國憲法規定，法定的宣誓句為：「I, Barack Hussein Obama, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of president of the United States, will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the constitution of the United States.（本人奧巴馬，承諾將忠誠地履行美國總統的職務，竭盡所能，保護、遵守和捍衛美國憲法。）」
根據憲法，奧巴馬應該把faithfully（忠誠地）一字，唸在execute（履行）之前。但首次主持總統宣誓儀式的法官羅伯茨，卻把這詞序弄錯了，把faithfully放在全句最尾。
奧巴馬跟著法官唸這句時，唸至execute，發覺有問題，猶豫地停了下來。羅伯茨這時也發現出錯，遂重唸了一次正確的版本。
不過，也許是先入為住，奧巴馬再次的時候，還是跟了法官第一次唸的錯誤版本。
